Outline

Take action for the future of the planet.

Sustainability*1 has become a major issue for the future of mankind.
This project is an international program begun in 2008 by a joint effort between DENSO CORPORATION*2 and Japan Environmental Education Forum*3,with the aim of fostering young people who have a high level of awareness about mankind's coexistence with the environment and who will actively tackle efforts to create a sustainable society.
The current program, the project's third, will be held in 2010 for students from Japan and six ASEAN countries at locations in Thailand and in Japan itself.
We hope that these young people will learn through experience, use this knowledge as a step towards their own futures, and will set off on their journeys as "new earthlings" to lead the next generation.

*1 There are various opinions about the definition of sustainability, but the general definition is "sustainable development." This concept was taken up as a central idea in a report titled "Our Common Future," which the World Commission on Environment and Development (chaired by then Norwegian Prime Minister Brundtland) released in 1987. It has come to mean the type of "development that will satisfy today's needs while also meeting the needs of the future generation."
*2 DENSO CORPORATION (headquartered in Kariya City, Aichi Prefecture) is Japan's largest automotive parts maker and has expanded to 32 nations and regions around the world. DENSO's mission, and its management philosophy, is to "contribute to a better world by creating value together with a vision for the future," and it hopes to put into practice corporate actions that are truly trusted by society. *3 Japan Environmental Education Forum networks with nations, corporations, and NGOs to promote cooperation and exchange based on practical training in environmental education. It wants to contribute to the global issue of building a sustainable society. (www.jeef.or.jp)
